In the presence of claims such as “X% less (plastic/paper…) than traditional pack” is it necessary to use recently used packaging as a reference? If so, what is the maximum number of years to refer to? Can I compare the new packaging with the old packaging even if the product has been withdrawn from the market?

Comparison with a previous product (which no longer exists on the market) should be made within a maximum of 5 years from when the product was withdrawn.

Beware of claims that suggest there are environmental benefits to substituting one material for another (e.g., plastic for paper): they should be substantiated with studies that prove the actual environmental benefits achieved (e.g., LCA).
