The mandatory marking for cups and glasses made entirely or partially of plastic comes into force on 3 July 2021 in line with the Single Use Plastic Directive.
The markings must be given in the official languages of the Member States in which the single-use plastic product is placed on the market.
The marking of cups or glasses placed on the market before 4 July 2022 can be affixed in the form of a sticker.
For more information, see the Guidelines on page 42.
Directive 2019/904 requires the Commission to develop guidelines aimed at clarifying more precisely when a product is to be considered a single-use plastic product for the purposes of the directive. These guidelines are currently being developed, therefore it is not possible at the moment to provide information on the characteristics of cups and glasses considered to be disposable plastic for the purposes of the Regulation.
