When can the generic term “green” or “environmentally friendly” or similar be used?

It can be used without further qualification only if there is evidence of the product’s excellent environmental performance (page 14 of the Guide).

It can be used with reference to a particular aspect or part of the product (e.g. recycled or recyclable content) that generates a significant environmental benefit from a lifecycle perspective (with evidence available, such as an LCA study) only if the specification is obvious and immediately linked (and not hidden or ambiguous) to the main claim in the same medium.
